Beginning to journal can seem frightening. I used to wonder "What do I even write about?"
Using topics were useful in guiding me towards making journaling a habit. After journaling 5-6 times a week for a few weeks, I've gained the ability to go without a prompt.
Listed below are ideas for topics. Anything from a plain notebook to the notes app on our phones works.
Checking in with yourself is an important exercise to practice- on and off the writing. Answer a few of these questions in your journal:
What do I like? What do I not? Learning more about oneself is crucial in order to find out what are your values, your drivers, and your weaknesses.
You can plan for your upcoming day, plan for how you will achieve a specific goal, or script (a term to describe writing your ideal future as if it had happened).
Sometimes, our mind is simply to cluttered. I love using my journal as a brain dump. Bullet points can work too to allow you to jump from different ideas without a centered theme. Inner peace afterwards guaranteed.
I am a sucker for quotes. Somedays, a specific quote will fall on my lap- whether through reading a page of " The Daily Stoic" or reading one in a book. I like to reflect on them and write how it connects to my life. We have a blogpost with 40 quotes to reflect upon.
Last but certainly not least, a gratitude list never fails. Go detailed and add in all that you can be grateful for. Including things that may have taught you life lessons, the rainy weather that water plants, and the breath you get to take today. We all have things to be grateful for.
